Future Falcons in Action
The new 6th grade level Fundamentals of Athletics Culture and Leadership classes offered at Smith and Rhea Intermediate campuses are off and running, literally. In fact, watch for The Future kids from Smith to run through the tunnel before the Falcons vs. Kaufman Homecoming game on October 11th!
“The Future” wristbands get them into Bear and Falcon home games. They also are not only used to show that campus Pride, but will be tied to upcoming recognition and campus fun.
The boys and girls in this class will be exposed to light workouts, techniques and terminology used in the middle schools and high schools, and will be introduced to various concepts associated with school athletics. They will also have a chance to meet some of their future coaches.
More importantly, they will engage in opening level Character and Leadership curriculum that helps clarify the pathway and reinforce ideals of learning to be better athletes and better people. This includes programs such as 2Words and the Positive Coaching Alliance, among others. Parents can interact with these programs and have dialogue at home as well.
These classes are not prerequisites for school athletics, as aspiring middle school and high school student athletes can still begin middle school sports in 7th grade or high school in 9th grade without having taken Fundamentals. However, this 6th grade class is a fun and developmentally relevant way to gain a PE credit and start off school sports on the right foot!
Way to go Future Athletes! Get ALL IN!
